In case you didn't already know, we have the best Mama in the world. Just look at how pretty she is.
Even though Mama was born outside and lived there her whole life, she gave us the chance to be born in a safe loving home. Pretty cool. Especially with all of the thunderstorms we have had in the Washington, D.C. area since we were born.
Today, Mama is a healthy, happy cat living in a great new home. While she was outside, she was exposed to FIV, which is a virus specific to cats. Statistically, that means that we have a slight chance of having it too - less than a 20% chance of having it. Most importantly, our foster mom and dad took every precaution to ensure that we would not get Mama's virus. They gave us KMR (Kitten Milk Replacement) until we were old enough to eat solid kitten food. They also made us special kitty toys made with fresh organic thyme leaves and garlic bulbs. They also made sure that Mama had a special new home. We have a healthy diet - high in protein, plus we have all of our shots and vaccines. All of these things protect our immune system.
We have been tested twice and are free from FIV. Since Mama has FIV, as an extra precaution, our doctor at Dupont Veterinary Clinic suggested that we be tested twice. Once when we were tiny kittens and again when we were more mature at 6-months. During those first 6-months, we were told to stay away from other cats. We were allowed to be around people 'cause FIV can't be given to humans. We were also allowed to be around other animals - just not cats. We think dogs are really cool.
